Modern Miss Granger

I’ve been DYING to read The Hawthorne Legacy since reading and adoring The Inheritance Games。 This book was a wild ride。 From the first few chapters we are tossed back into Hawthorne House, with all of its lies, secrets, and dangers。 The stakes are higher, the consequences more dire, and the questions more numerous。 Buckle up。 Avery has grown so much as a character throughout these books。 We see a lot more of her emotional turmoil in this book than in the first。 It’s definitely darker than book I’ve been DYING to read The Hawthorne Legacy since reading and adoring The Inheritance Games。 This book was a wild ride。 From the first few chapters we are tossed back into Hawthorne House, with all of its lies, secrets, and dangers。 The stakes are higher, the consequences more dire, and the questions more numerous。 Buckle up。 Avery has grown so much as a character throughout these books。 We see a lot more of her emotional turmoil in this book than in the first。 It’s definitely darker than book one。 There were a lot of plot lines and side characters in this book that definitely confused me a lot。 I have a soft spot for Xander and his hilarious commentary。 The romance definitely escalated in this book! I was here for it。 Now I will be impatiently waiting for the last book。 。。。more

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 Part 2 of the Hawthorne series picks up a little after where the first book left off。 If you're looking for more brainteaser puzzles, this isn't the book for you。 Book 2 focuses more on relationships between the characters as we try to uncover more about Tobias's motivations。 We learn a heck of a lot more about Toby as well。 The book is a fast read just like the first one。 The writing can get a little repetitive at times (if I have to hear the I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 Part 2 of the Hawthorne series picks up a little after where the first book left off。 If you're looking for more brainteaser puzzles, this isn't the book for you。 Book 2 focuses more on relationships between the characters as we try to uncover more about Tobias's motivations。 We learn a heck of a lot more about Toby as well。 The book is a fast read just like the first one。 The writing can get a little repetitive at times (if I have to hear the phrase preppy with an edge one more time。。。。) but the story is interesting enough。 The twist at the ending honestly came out of left field and felt disjointed。 Definitely leaves more questions than answers so you'll pick up book 3 when it gets released。 If you're into love triangles and family secrets you'll enjoy book 2。 It might suffer from Book 2 syndrome but it's not a bad installment。Overall I would give it a solid B。 Pick it up if you're a fan of the series。 。。。more

And will Avery be able to choose between the enigmatic Grayson and the charismatic Jameson Avery? The Hawthorne Legacy is a hugely enjoyable read full of mystery, suspense, romance and puzzles。 Loved it。 。。。more

I was lucky enough to be sent this as an arc before it’s released on 9th Sept in UK。 And just wow。 It lived up to my expectations。 I read the inheritance games last year and loved it and was desperate for the sequel。 It had everything and more; mystery, puzzles, crime, humour, romance (obv the love triangle!)。 Again was just as fast paced as the first book and I flew through the pages。 Doesn’t end on a cliffhanger but definitely some questions left unanswered。 This is a must read for me!

I have never read a more exciting and heart racing second book before。 The Hawthorne Legacy continues Avery’s story of becoming the Hawthorne Heiress but this time Avery and the Hawthorne brothers are on the hunt for a ghost…who isn’t at all who everyone thinks he is。There were twist and turns, riddles and puzzles, mysteries on top of mysteries- and the tension between Avery and two of the Hawthorne brothers is *chefs kiss*。This book constantly had my brain firing off, my heart skipping beats an I have never read a more exciting and heart racing second book before。 The Hawthorne Legacy continues Avery’s story of becoming the Hawthorne Heiress but this time Avery and the Hawthorne brothers are on the hunt for a ghost…who isn’t at all who everyone thinks he is。There were twist and turns, riddles and puzzles, mysteries on top of mysteries- and the tension between Avery and two of the Hawthorne brothers is *chefs kiss*。This book constantly had my brain firing off, my heart skipping beats and there was squealing from my lips a time or two。 The Inheritance Game was a fun and thrilling book- The Hawthorne Legacy is daring and dangerous and absolutely a MUST READ!!! 。。。more

The Hawthorne Legacy is a book with so much going on。 From the beginning I had such a sense of anticipation, brimming with excitement to find out what was going to unfold。 There are so many intricate connections between people and events that you need to pay attention to everything。Unfortunately, it might actually have too much going on for me。 Despite having re-read the first book before picking this one up, I sometimes lost track and some big revelations did not lead to shock and excitement, b The Hawthorne Legacy is a book with so much going on。 From the beginning I had such a sense of anticipation, brimming with excitement to find out what was going to unfold。 There are so many intricate connections between people and events that you need to pay attention to everything。Unfortunately, it might actually have too much going on for me。 Despite having re-read the first book before picking this one up, I sometimes lost track and some big revelations did not lead to shock and excitement, but instead to me pausing for a second to work out the connection。 Perhaps that is more reflective of me than the story, but in general this book had a very different feel to the first。 It sets up a lot for the next book with a rush of twists and revelations right near the end。 The focus is less on Avery and co needing to decipher puzzles, and more on uncovering long hidden, dirty family secrets。 This is still interesting, but not quite as engaging for me。Fans of the characters will still enjoy this book I'm sure, and I'm intrigued enough that I know I'll want to read the third book when it comes out。Thanks to NetGalley for providing me an e-copy of the book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Well that was a bloody rollercoaster wasn’t it?This book definitely held up to my expectations considering how much I adored book 1。 I feel as though the mystery didn’t calm in the slightest and we were being taken on so many more adventures and I still I couldn’t tell how they were going to turn out。I have to admit I have no idea how this is going to turn into a trilogy? Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Children’s UK for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for and honest review。 I absolutely loved the first book in this series and I definitely enjoyed this one。 I did find that I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first。 I like that romance wasn’t an over all driving force in the first but in this book it felt like things would get exciting and then romance would be unnecessarily dragged into the scene。 This is all just personal preference but I really Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Children’s UK for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for and honest review。 I absolutely loved the first book in this series and I definitely enjoyed this one。 I did find that I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first。 I like that romance wasn’t an over all driving force in the first but in this book it felt like things would get exciting and then romance would be unnecessarily dragged into the scene。 This is all just personal preference but I really detest love triangles。 This book had that frustrating one where the MC just strings the both of them along while they figure their own issues out。 I find it selfish and irritating and it didn’t further the plot。 I do understand that the entire situation of being thrust into the richest family with two hot brothers and plunged into the spot light would cause anyone to be confused so I will give Avery that much。 The overall action and stakes definitely were higher and I found myself on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen next。 I did find this book to be slightly more predictable than the first but it didn’t take away from the over all enjoyment。 The main conflict and resolution seemed to happen all at once within the last 10 chapters。 There were a few things that did seem a little strangely convenient but I could easily over look them considering the family’s enormous wealth, I can’t say I’m super wealthy so who knows what you can get away with。 I would definitely recommend this book considering the overall story is a good one。 From book one through the ending of this one it’s a fun exciting adventure。 I am definitely interested to see what happens next。 。。。more

True to the Inheritance games, the Hawthorne Legacy was a very quick read。 Something about the way the author writes keeps me engaged in the story, and it’s really easy to read。 I’m going to keep this spoiler free, so I’ll just say that I didn’t see the ending of this book coming, which I appreciated。 There were many plot twists, which on the one hand was nice because you had to stay really engaged in the book and really use your brain, but at a certain point it also felt a little cluttered with so many things to keep track of。 If i was just rating it off of how easy it was to pick up and delve into, it would be 4 stars。 The Hawthorne Legacy was similar to the Inheritance games in that it was centred around solving a mystery。 However, I found that the characters felt flat, and seemed to miss some of the complexity and depth that they had in The Inheritance Games, as the book was REALLY centred on the mystery, and not so much on character growth, dynamics, or emotion。 You didn’t get to see many conversations between characters, or really see how they were feeling/ what drives them。 I also really wish that one specific character that I was invested in from the Inheritance Games was in it a lot more, or at least as much as he was in book 1 (again, keeping it spoiler free)。 If I was just rating it based off my opinions on the plot, and what the author chose to focus on, it would be 3 stars。 All in all, it wasn’t as great as The Inheritance Games, but it also didn’t detract from my enjoyment of it。 I also think it’s really hard to write a good middle book in a YA trilogy, and for all the ones I’ve read this definitely is in the top 50%。 Looking forward to seeing how this series concludes in book 3! 。。。more
